Every time I go screaming into the dark night away from bipolar, ritualistically burn another copy of my book, and avoid any blogging. Something strange always happens, last night I came home and of all the thousands of tracks coming out of my speakers, was the current draft of my book audio, I was

IMG_5621 dumbfounded. It was an old phone which I thought I had deleted the audio draft out of disgust and yet I found myself sitting down quietly listening.(Damn this guy is good and he’s talking about bipolar) (maybe i should try some of this shit)Here’s the deal about bipolar, it sucks I love it, and good grief trying to explain it to anyone who doesn’t experience it. So today I logged on to Twitter and searched bipolar and it’s amazing how many people are out there just like me dealing with this mental opportunity and I’m grateful that no matter how alone and crazy I feel at times, I am always grateful when I take the time to reach out and discover others dealing with this experience however we’re currently choosing to deal with it. The bottom line for me is yeah bipolar can be dangerous for myself and others but there’s also a lot of us out here working really hard to create healthy awareness and DIY organic mental health breadcrumbs. If your struggling with your mental gifts today, like I am, you are not alone. When we get thru this moment, I’ll bet we are going to create a little bit of healthy chaos and laughter.

Too High

H2OThe longer I am sober, the more creative I get in response to the question, why don’t you drink?

Lately, I’m higher than any artificial mental assistant could get me.  Too High in fact.  I had to put the air brakes on yesterday and slow my assent a bit.

It’s one thing to be bipolar, it’s another thing to sober up for many years and string together sobriety, add healthy simple living, meditation practices, daily creative expression, WATCH OUT!

Yup, I knew I might have gone a wee bit too naturally high when a simple glass of water was tripping me out.

I don’t drink or do drugs of any kind, legal or otherwise, because sober creative life is a bigger trip, than I ever experienced before.

Let me make that period bigger

Life is good, seek continuous sobriety, have a creative blast, be your dreams, and keep on tripping, in a really good, natural groove!

P.s.  I chilled out, ate some fish, gently landed my brain, letting things getting a bit grounded before I let my self enjoy another glass of that delicious stuff called H2O.

Anxious Not?

ImageIs my anxiety me, or is it a circumstance?

Is my anxiety me, or is it a learned survival identity?

Is my anxiety temporary, or permanent?

Is the root of my anxiety a coping mechanism for a temporary traumatic situation, gone viral?

When I first discovered/acknowledged anxiety in me and all of it’s flavors, manifestations/forms.  I wanted to deny it, like I had all along, with action, distraction, chaos and food.

When I began acknowledging studying, healing etc., believe it or not, anxiety diminishment occurred.

In the peak of engulfment of learning/being in my anxiety, I answered the first questions as, yes I am an anxious person by nature and always have been.

In the post of my years of learning self care, protection, nurturing, creating, I can acknowledge, no, I’m not an anxious person.

Yes the recipe of my life was an anxious creation, yet the conscious living of my life since, has lead to a calm endeavor, rich with serenity, I bit of chaotic and growth spice, followed by calm seas.  Each helping define the other.

In July, for the first time in my life I declared I was a calm sane, “normal” individual left up to my own devices by nature.  Since then I’ve dealt with a series of work and life storms that have invited me back to “I’m just a crazy person”.

NEWSFLASH to my soul:  I’ve ridden the storm, discovered underlying causes, and declare once again, I’m sane.

This is huge for me, because I rarely felt that as a kid, and never as an adult since I was locked up for 5 weeks at 17.

My adult life, began in a state run psychiatric institute.  Go figure, I’ve been driven by the anxiety of being officially labelled crazy, and the fear of being locked up again, ever since.

Thank God, I chose to believe, I wasn’t junk, I was created this way for a reason, and that I would and have find a way to live autonomously, with the gifts that I am.

I never, ever, in 25 years since I was released from the mental institute, think I could consider myself sane, and normal.

Miracles Happen,  I know this, because I am one.

If I can figure a way out, maybe my words can be of service to the next individual willing to wrought their way out of their inner angst.

Bipolar Angst

BPAngst“We can see how people dream and succeed in life; we can also completely sympathize   with people walking the dark and lonely roads of hopeless failure.”  pg 6, Living Out of Darkness.

I wrote this in the beginning of my book about the bipolar disorder journey.  It’s an alternative definition I’ve come up with to attempt describing the big picture experience of being consciously bipolar.

Training oneself with spirituality, positive metaphysics, etc, can help understand and work with managing the mania phase.

Deep sober, prayer and meditation, can lead to expanding comprehension of human experience while physically filled with dark emotion.

These two methods combined over time to deal with the mania and depression, can lead to the conscious bipolar experience.

Conscious bipolar individuals don’t just intellectually analyze the facts of anything. We can experience first hand direct physical emotional/soul/spirit/ connection with facts and humanity. The immensity of this experience without internal or external tutelage, leads to the blow outs in behavior.

On one hand, I can/could/have, blame my family for everything,

On the other hand, knowing what I know now, about their upbringing in challenging times, the nature of the individuals that they are, combined with the in depth experience a bipolar life has allowed me, I could never blame them or me for anything.

Experiencing the extreme highs/lows, depth of life, separately, mixed, and intimately within one’s body allows an opening for healing.

When I can truly feel another’s pain, and potential, in my own body, I can also nurture hope and potential.

This is tricky.  It is the gift and burden of bipolar angst.  Do we run from the highs and lows and act out?

Do we stick around long enough to experience both?

Do we embody what we feel, and still choose conscious positive potential actions?

Tears Heal

Tears

When I gently guide myself thru a rough patch, tears can be a good sign.

?

Yesterday Rocky today tears?

Yup.

When I’ve been thru a stretch of high stress work or life, and my mind is on obsessive spin cycle, or sleeplessness, etc., tears can sometimes indicate, i’m getting ok again.

When I learned how to be crazy as a child, I learned a “survival identity”.

Stop crying or I’ll give you something to cry about.

As an adult it is much easier to ignore mental pain, and just get on with reality, take care of work/life/family demands to provide food and shelter.

But what if the crisis ends, if real world demands drop off a bit, and I actually have a moment to breathe, or allow myself a moment to catch up internally?

I usually go thru phases, get thru the stress, spin down, sleep, have a really good day, and then anxiety hits.

This is a tricky slope in dealing with mental waves, bipolar disorder, and continuous sobriety.

The anxiety, after a really good day, after a series of really bad daze, needs to be dealt with carefully, inside out.

First I acknowledge it.  Yesterday, nothing was wrong in my world, but I felt squirrelly.  It would have been easy to make a lot of unhealthy choices.

It would have been easy to dismiss it and get busy with anything.

When I have the luxury of time, to breath in my anxiety, I do.

Why?!!!

Overtime, years in fact, of this practice, has lead to a deeper calm inside, less of a reaction to stressful situations while they happen, less need for poor choices in situations I want to run from etc.

Tears, are an indicator, I feel safe enough to feel, and safe enough to decompress, and catch up with unprocessed sensitivity, reactions, visceral response to human experience in a mechanically operated, automated, corporate environment, techo fast world.

How natural is it for us to be human in our fast paced society?

How natural is it to be human, bottle up stress, and stuff it with more busy-ness?

Tears can heal, if allowed a moment to breathe.

Acceptance

FaithEvery now and then, the sh#t hits the fan, and fear dragons threaten everything.

I’ve been in one of these times when fear seems to be the overriding theme.   It’s been an intense growth cycle this summer, thank God, it’s drawing to a close, I’m not sure how much more growth I can stand before calmer winter energy settles in and I can get on with good old fashioned depression.

Much simpler to deal with depression, go through the emotions, physically nurture, etc.

It’s pretty much a rote routine for me to deal with it, almost a friend I miss in the frenetic energy of summer.

And what a summer.

 

Anyway, Acceptance.  When all else fails.  Accept.  Surrender, get on knees, in FAITH.  ???

Yes.  Believe it or not(I keep re-membering) there is knowledge I do not know, events I can not foresee, and good possible outcomes, I can’t predict or create in my mind before they occur.  I can sure give myself a dark ride before hand if I chose.

This has been my internal battle as of late since receiving some unwanted news of a future event, with imagined disastrous outcomes.  Typical behavior of a wanna be manic  overactive semi/full paranoid mind.

So what do I turn to in times like this?  Drugs, nope, tried that 20 plus years ago with disastrous results.  Alcohol- same.  Food-not working as well as it used to and cravings to be fat and floppy have diminished radically, even started exercising again.

Oh yeah, wait a minute.  How about begging God for help, writing in my journal my worst nightmare scenarios, and crossing my legs, closing my eyes, and …wait for it…being calm and listening, or listening and becoming calm.

Does it work all the time or instantly? not usually.  Somewhat dependent on my current sincerity level and severity of my wandering from my practices of cultivating calm, awareness, and faith.  Which to sum up has been the harvest of this summers internal growth season, duct tape my mind and mouth, get on my knees, and ask how can I best serve and be served, teach and learn, with those I’m currently interacting and or struggling with.  How may I best interact with the current people or situations in my life?

The biggest prize of this summers festivities, has been exactly this.  When all other self delusional activities fail, and sometimes even before.  Accept.  There could be something bigger than my ego of fear involved that could be guiding me to an outcome better than I ever hoped or expected possible.

hmm. yup. it’s been a back to basics experience, of which I’m grateful.  Regardless of my social/learning/relational dysfunction, and for lack of a better word, PTSD, I’m still a good person, creating a life on earth with others in a human body.  I chose daily, whether to ramp up the crazy, or settle deeper in calm.  Accepting the mixed outcome, and over time winning a calm inner faith experience appears to be an internal gift, that keeps expanding, thru every internal, and external real or imagined disaster.

Anxiety

Let’s face it.  We all deal with it.  You know fight or flight.  Dream and act on your soul’s directives, or succumb to the numbness of dreary existence.

The

Anxiety

deeper I seep into my soul’s interior frontier, the more I drift from the exterior label of bipolar disorder.  I begin to see bipolar as more of a series of coping/integrating behaviors to a higher intellectual emotional, bigger picture, truth.

As I do my best to cope organically with current bouts and waves of anxiety and subsequent insomnia, about life changes, I receive the opportunity to sit still, and let the anxiety… dance… inside my mind, body, and emotions.  If I allow the dance long enough without action, the still small soul voice inside bubbles up real truth and constructive actions about my current situation.  Time and again simple journaling appears to be the best method of recording and releasing my fears.   I even burn them sometimes (kinda expensive to burn my Smartphone so I had to switch back to paper).

STOP! Wait a minute here George that is not a productive societal culturally endorsed method of dealing with Anxiety!

Stopping? Sitting?  BREATHING? into your anxiety without action until you hear a calm clear message from your soul?… THEN??? take action?

Yes.

As I delve deeper, releasing my soul’s art inside out, like I’ve always dreamed of, it has re-triggered the usual list of anxiety monsters designed to shut me down.

I deal with my anxiety demons as calmly as I can.  I do my best to create an ongoing nurturing compassionate environment of internal and external self-nurturing.  I purposely establish habits, routines, environments, and schedules to deal with my insides, as compassionately and completely as I can in the real time moments of being triggered.

Oh hog wash what a bother, what about XYZ of in completes?(oh hello anxiety, guess what, it wasn’t all done before I arrived on earth and it certainly wont be fore I depart)
